I am happy to welcome you to the School of  Mass Communication – an emerging centre of  education and professional excellence, run and governed by the Ranchi University, Ranchi. The Department offers two-year fulltime MA Programme in Mass Communication, three-year BA in Journalism and Mass Communication, two-year MA in Film studies and production and one-year Post Graduate Diploma in Film Studies and Production.  

The rapid developments in the Internet and the cognate communication technologies have made the world progressively much more interconnected than in anytime in the past. These changes have made the fields of journalism and mass communication and Film Making  much more collaborative, intensively technology based, vibrant, responsive, competitive and challenging beyond limits. The business models, the key skills, the technology drivers, the modes and channels, the delivery mechanisms etc. have all undergone drastic changes compared to what they were a few decades ago.

Amidst these changes and the competitive environments it becomes important that we train and nurture qualified and competent journalists with the right pedagogy and tools so that they could meaningfully contribute to the organisation and the industry they join in and work for. The media and entertainment industry is a high growth segment with potentially huge job requirements of talented and trained personnel. Our two-year fulltime, regular programme provides contemporary and updated education to the budding journalists with in-depth practical exposure. We have experienced and knowledgeable faculty resources and an able support team to ensure best-quality education at an affordable budget.
